Leaders In Training
Your 16 year old may be too old to be a camper, but not quite old enough to be on our camp staff for the whole summer. So, we created the Leader in Training program. Your teen learns how to become a counselor and camp leader while mentoring younger campers and being a positive role model. WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING LIT APPLICATIONS.
LIT FAQs
What is an LIT?
LIT stands for Leader-In-Training. We’ve found the best leaders and staff are often those who have been through the camp experience as a camper. LITs are transitioning from a camper to a camp leader.
Who can apply for the LIT program?
To be eligible for our LIT program, you must be at least 16 years old and entering the 11th grade in the upcoming fall.
Why should I apply?
LITs have the opportunity to continue attending camp, albeit in a new role. LITs build leadership skills, continue in the camp tradition of forming lasting relationships, and contribute to the overall camp atmosphere. The LIT program is for campers who wish to transition to the role of Counselor in the future or those who simply wish to build skills for future employment.
What do we do?
The LIT program gives young adults the opportunity to develop leadership skills as they assist camp staff in daily operations. LITs participate in daily activities, helping Counselors and Specialists execute programming. LITs will also assist in cabin supervision and mentoring and role modeling for younger campers. LIT’s will go on field trips and other off camp adventures. LITs participate in camp service projects and develop new skills while enjoying the excitement of summer camp!
How does the application process work for becoming a LIT?
Everyone interested in becoming an LIT must complete an application. All applications for the LIT program are reviewed on an ongoing basis until the slots are filled. After completed applications are received, phone calls will be made for interviews. All participants receive a written letter about their acceptance or non-acceptance into the LIT program. Once accepted into the program, an enrollment form and full payment are required.
What’s included in the program fee?
The fee includes training hours, staff supervision, lodging and meals, field trip costs, and unique leadership development opportunities.
How many sessions can/must I attend?
To gain the full benefit of the program design, LITs are encouraged to enroll in all 3 sessions of camp. All LITs are required to attend the first session and at least one other session (2 or 3).
